On January 26th, Akil Mitchell was playing a basketball game for the New Zealand Breakers when his eye popped out sources say. The former University of Virginia forward was playing against the Cairins in Auckland, New Zealand, Thursday night when another player reportedly poked Mitchell in the face as he was going for a rebound, causing his left eye to pop out of socket. After his injury, Mitchell fell to the floor and the game was stopped for 15 minutes as he was treated by medical personnel. Mitchell was later taken to the hospital where his eye was further examined and reported to only have suffered minor damage. After making it home safely, Mitchell sent out a tweet making light of the incident and thanking people for their prayers. He also noted that he was seeing just fine.
